About the episode

Fraud is evolving fast, and staying ahead is critical. That’s why we're excited about Fraud in Five: a bite-sized webinar series where we unpack key trends, tactics, and insights from the front lines of fraud in five minutes.

In the latest episode of Fraud in Five, Johnny Bravo, Industry Principal for Property Technology, joined the discussion to explore the growing issue of Credit Privacy Numbers (CPNs) in the rental housing market. CPNs are marketed as a way to mask past credit or eviction issues and are often used to create synthetic identities. These identities combine real personal details, like names and birth dates, with fake or unauthorized Social Security Numbers to deceive tenant screening processes - and they can be extremely hard to detect.

Watch to learn:

  • What CPNs are and how they work
  • Why applicants may knowingly or unknowingly commit fraud using CPNs
  • What to look for in a fraud prevention tool to help combat this issue
