Risk Leaders Breakfast Session

Join us for a breakfast session at CBA LIVE on Monday, March 30th in our meeting room, 502 B (Cobalt Level).

Enjoy breakfast and networking with fellow risk leaders while learning about the Fake Document Economy with Dr. David Maimon, Head of Fraud Insights at SentiLink.

About the Session:

Online marketplaces selling fraudulent identity documents have evolved into sophisticated ecosystems that openly advertise driver's licenses, passports, bank statements, utility bills, and proof-of-income documents designed specifically to bypass identity verification controls.

In this talk, we present findings from a comprehensive survey of websites that sell counterfeit and synthetic identity documents, examining how these marketplaces operate, the types of documents they offer, pricing across vendors, and the growing role of artificial intelligence in the fake document economy. Additionally, we will be discussing how financial institutions can better detect synthetic identities, manipulated documents, and AI-generated verification artifacts before they lead to account opening fraud.

  • 7:15 - 8:00 am | Presentation and discussion

Hands on with The Fake Document Economy: How AI and Online Markets Are Undermining Identity Verification

Dr. David Maimon serves as the Head of Fraud Insights at SentiLink, where he plays a pivotal role in bridging the gap between upstream fraud signals found in the online fraud ecosystem and downstream fraud signals received by SentiLink partners. He is also a Professor in the Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology at Georgia State University (GSU) and serves as the director of the Evidence-Based Cybersecurity Research Group.

In this session, David will share insights on:

  • What's Happening Inside the Fake Document Market: Understand how online marketplaces selling fraudulent documents operate, including pricing, services offered, and the role of AI in document creation.

  • How Fraudsters Bypass Verification: Learn how fake documents, AI-generated images, and manipulated videos are used to defeat common digital identity verification workflows.

  • Defensive Strategies for Banks: Identify practical signals, investigative approaches, and control improvements that can help financial institutions detect and mitigate document-based identity fraud.
